João Breda

João Breda is the Head of the Noncommunicable Diseases (NCDs) Office in Moscow, Russian Federation. This office leads WHO’s work to strengthen national capacity in 53 countries in the WHO European Region to prevent, control and develop policies to tackle NCDs. During the previous years João Breda has been the Programme Manager for Nutrition, Physical Activity and Obesity at the WHO Regional Office in Europe. João Breda has a PhD in Nutritional Sciences from Porto University, where he defended his thesis focused on alcohol abuse in young people. He has a Masters Degree in Public Health from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of Lisbon University and an MBA from the European University in Barcelona. Before joining WHO in 2010, he worked as a Public Health Specialist at the General Health Directorate of Portugal and in other institutions at the Ministry of Health in the fields of nutrition, physical activity, obesity and alcohol abuse.
